Orientation
This
course is an introduction to cosmetology. It is designed to
provide the student with the knowledge and technical skills
required for entry into the field of cosmetology. Students
will learn the state rules and regulations that govern this
industry.
Shampoo
and Related Theory
This
course is an introduction to the basic fundamentals of shampooing
and conditioning. The student will also learn to identify
when, why, and how to brush the hair, as well as identify
types of shampoo.
Hair
and Scalp Treatment
This
course is designed to introduce the student to deep, penetrating
conditioning, and reconstruction of the hair and scalp. The
student will learn to recognize scalp and hair disorders,
and will know which can be treated.
Cold
waving and Related Theory
This
is an introduction to basic texturizing and the ability to
create a long lasting style. Students will learn product chemistry,
client consultation, hair analysis, proper rod selection,
wrapping procedures, and safety precautions.
Chemical
Relaxing
This
course is designed to teach chemical reformation of hair,
and the chemistry of products used to relax and reform overly
curly hair. Special emphasis is placed on the safe use of
the chemical products.
Hair
coloring
This
is an introduction to hair coloring. The student will learn
client consultation, principles of color, classification of
hair color, hair lighteners, preventative and corrective steps
to hair coloring problems, and safety precautions.
Manicuring
This
course provides the structure, skills, and knowledge of manicuring,
pedicuring, and advanced nail technology. Topics include terminology,
safety precautions, anatomy, and chemistry.
Facials
This
course is an introduction to basic principles of a facial
program. Students will learn the beneficial effects of facials.
Topics include massage, manipulation, corrective facials,
packs, masks, and make-up.
Hair
Cutting and Styling
This
course teaches the fundamentals and skills necessary for the
field of cosmetology. Topics include service preparation,
client consultation, scalp and hair analysis, low elevation/high
elevation/reverse and blended elevations, hair design, hair
setting, finger waving, pin curls, proper combout techniques,
French braiding, thermal styling, blow drying, Marcel curling,
and safety precautions.
Chemistry
Teaches
the basic knowledge and understanding of the multitude of
products and cosmetics used in the salon. The student will
learn to use products in a way that is beneficial to the client.
Topics include composition of elements, chemistry of water,
classification of shampoos, composition of hair, before, during,
and after a chemical service.
Salon
Management and Practices
The
student will be introduced to numerous management opportunities
existing in the cosmetology field. Topics include facts needed
before opening a salon, financial considerations, importance
of maintaining accurate business records, good business operations,
principles of good selling, and advertising.
