FAQ on Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is recommended for uneven granular skin with sun damage.  Enlarged pores with blackheads, fine lines and wrinkles, minor acne scars; and narrow stretch marks. Microdermabrasion works on improving skin texture and restoring the skin elasticity and clarity. After Microdermabrasion, your skin feels fresh, tight, and well oxygenated. A series of treatments can produce superb anti-aging results.

Q:  What is Microdermabrasion?
A:  Microdermabrasion is a progressive, non-invasive treatment that propels natural mineral crystals onto the surface of the skin for gentle epidermal abrasion thus revealing fresher, newer, healthier looking skin.

Q:  How does the treatment work?
A:
Microdermabrasion works in two ways:
Microdermabrasion works  by gently exfoliating or removing the outside layers (stratum corneum) of the skin.  The speed of the crystal flow causes an abrasive action that gently removes the outer surface layers, allowing smoother, fresher skin to be apparent. The vacuum action helps to stimulate micro circulation and lymphatic flow, increasing the blood supply that provides nutrients needed for skin regeneration.   This  helps accelerate the skins repair process and stimulates the formation of new collagen and elastin thereby improving skin texture and elasticity.

Q:  Is it painful?
A:
The treatment is performed with little discomfort. At the most, sensitive patients might experience a sensation resembling a light sunburn. After treatment, the skin has a pink glow, and you can resume your normal activities almost immediately. The procedure can be done during lunch hour.

Q:  Which skin problems can be treated?
A:
This system gradually abrades epidermal cells to treat a vast range of skin problems including:
7 sun-damaged skin
7 blackheads and comedones
7 uneven and granular skin
7 superficial scars
7 fine lines and wrinkles
7 some stretch marks
7 enlarged pores

Q:  Is it safe?
A:
Microdermabrasion offers a more gentle alternative to traumatic resurfacing treatments, unlike traditional dermabrasion or chemical peeling. Microdermabrasion is done progressively instead of aggressively. This virtually painless process can be performed on all skin types and tones, with no possibility of scarring or hypo-pigmentation. It does not involve trauma or bleeding. The treatment is executed slowly and progressively, removing only superficial layers of the epidermis to reveal a youthful complexion and glow. Your therapist has total control and works under the strictest hygiene standards, using sterile, treatment nozzles to ensure your safety.

Q:  How long does it take?
A:
Each treatment takes 15 to 30 minutes. When combined with important anti-aging, skin hydrating steps, it takes 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Q:  How many treatments will I need?
A:
Age and skin condition determine the number of treatments required to achieve optimum effect. For most skin disorders, a minimum of six  treatments is recommended. Results can be seen in both the texture and the appearance of the skin after just one session. Closely spaced treatments, combined with maintenance sessions, will result in better skin quality and postpone a facelift for years.

Q:  Can Microdermabrasion be used on the body?
A:
There are virtually no areas of the body that would not benefit from Microdermabrasion. When used in the exfoliation mode, it can be performed on the entire face, neck, and dicolleti with a second sweep on any areas of hyper-pigmentation or textural irregularities.
